Auburn Mayor Michael Quill will be leading a DRI bid walking tour next Thursday, focusing on the 500-plus jobs that the city’s bid will create if it wins Governor Cuomo’s $10 Million prize. The Schine Theater is one of the key elements of the bid.
Earlier this month, the Cayuga County Arts Council announced the council will partner with Bowers Development of East Syracuse to restore the 80-year old vaudeville and movie house.
Council Director Ed Onori said on this week’s Finger Lakes Morning News the first step in bringing the theater back to life is asbestos remediation.
The city is providing $800 thousand as part of its Community Development Block Grant program. Onori says negotiations are underway that may see Bowers Development become the owner of the restored theater.
