The driver of the vehicle involved in a one car accident on I-86 in Horseheads that killed a 19 year old Ithaca man last October has been charged with manslaughter.
According to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, 28 year old Jonathan Byrd, of Ithaca, was driving at speeds of over 100 miles per hour shortly after midnight October 13th when he lost control of his car while rounding a curve. The car went off the shoulder of the road and continued several hundred feet through the median while overturning several times.
Byrd was treated at St. Joseph’s Hospital for minor injuries, while one passenger, 32 year old Carlton Clinton, Junior, of Elmira, suffered a serious neck injury. Another passenger, Luciano Servetto, was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
Its alleged Byrd was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the accident. He is being held at the Chemung County Jail.
